Scottish light-heavyweight contender Willy Hutchinson has his sights firmly set on a rematch with fellow Briton Joshua Buatsi, expressing a strong desire to avenge his previous loss sooner rather than later.

The two boxers previously met in the ring last September, delivering a compelling 12-round performance. Buatsi (19-1, 13 KOs) ultimately secured a split decision victory, having managed to knock down his domestic rival twice during the bout.

Despite the knockdowns, Hutchinson (18-2, 13 KOs) demonstrated remarkable toughness and determination to see the fight through to the final bell. He effectively utilized his evasive style while simultaneously proving his ability to withstand significant punches.

Prior to their clash, `The Hutch Train` had achieved an impressive upset victory by outpointing Craig Richards. However, a subsequent injury following the defeat to Buatsi temporarily stalled the momentum of his promising career.

The injury in question occurred before a scheduled fight against Zach Parker in February. Hutchinson was forced to withdraw from that contest after suffering a dislocated and torn left shoulder.

In preparation for his return and future challenges, Hutchinson has made a significant training change, moving to London to work with head coach Shane McGuigan. This relocation takes him away from his usual environment as he focuses intently on achieving world honours.

Before making a challenge for a title in the 175lb division, Hutchinson understands he first needs to secure a win in his next outing, the date of which is currently pending announcement.

Meanwhile, Joshua Buatsi recently experienced a defeat to Callum Smith in February, despite putting in a strong performance. This result has somewhat complicated his immediate path towards securing his first world title opportunity.

From Hutchinson`s perspective, a second fight against Buatsi represents a logical and beneficial step for both careers. The winner would undoubtedly find themselves in a significantly stronger position moving forward within the light-heavyweight ranks.

While the potential rematch could materialise later in the year, the 26-year-old boxer insists his immediate concentration is solely on his upcoming assignment.

“I’m just waiting on this fight date, then it’s time to rock and roll,” Hutchinson told Boxing News.

“I’m down here [in London] for a purpose; I’m down here to become a world champion, so I’m doing nothing else but training, eating and sleeping.”

“Hopefully, after this next fight, I’ll get my rematch [with Buatsi] – that’s the plan; I want to put that right.”

“There’s no excuses, but I believe that next time, I’ll get him. Either way, I’m one or two fights away from my world title.”

“I just want to be happy, stay focused and become a world champion. I’ve got it all in the tank.”

Willy Hutchinson remains determined as he plots his return and pursues his goals in the competitive light-heavyweight division.
