William Zepeda to Face Tevin Farmer in Rematch on Home Turf in March

Mexican boxer William Zepeda is set to return to his home country for the first time in over three years, as he prepares to face former world champion Tevin Farmer in a rematch scheduled for March 29 in Cancun, Mexico.

The two fighters previously met in November, with Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) narrowly securing a split decision victory despite being knocked down in the fourth round. However, many observers believed that Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KOs) had done enough to win the fight and claim the WBC interim lightweight title.

Now, both contenders have the opportunity to settle the score in Zepeda’s home country. Golden Boy Promotions announced the highly anticipated rematch on social media yesterday, generating excitement among boxing fans.

It’s worth noting that Farmer has raised concerns about the lack of drug testing before and after their first encounter. Given Zepeda’s reputation for his high work rate – throwing over 1,000 punches in their previous fight according to Compubox – implementing proper drug testing protocols should be a priority for this rematch.

The winner of this bout will be in a strong position to challenge for Shakur Stevenson’s WBC lightweight title. Stevenson is scheduled to defend his belt against undefeated prospect Floyd Schofield next Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking his return to the ring following hand surgery.

If Stevenson emerges victorious, it’s likely that he will be mandated to face the winner of the Zepeda-Farmer rematch in his next title defense.
