Veteran fighters Neil Magny and Gunnar Nelson, who collectively possess a wealth of experience with 50 bouts within the promotion, are slated to compete at UFC 318.
The organization confirmed on Friday that these established welterweight competitors will face off at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on July 19th.
This appearance will mark Magny`s 35th fight under the UFC banner. He is looking to regain momentum after suffering consecutive first-round knockout losses to Michael Morales and Carlos Prates. Earlier in 2024, Magny secured a comeback stoppage victory against Mike Malott at UFC 297, a result that continued a pattern of alternating wins and losses across his last seven appearances.
Nelson is making a swift return to the octagon, which will be his second fight in a year – a frequency he hasn`t maintained since 2019. Known to fans as “Gunni,” his recent two-fight win streak was halted by Kevin Holland, who defeated him via an engaging decision at UFC London in March. Prior to that defeat, Nelson had recorded a submission win over Bryan Barberena and a decision victory against Takashi Sato.
The UFC 318 event is headlined by what is being billed as Dustin Poirier`s final fight, as he challenges Max Holloway for the BMF title in their highly anticipated third meeting.
