Alexander Volkanovski, the featherweight champion, is not planning another long break after his recent victory. He wants to compete again soon following his win over Diego Lopes at UFC 314.
Volkanovski is excited to defend his title and is looking at several possible challengers in the featherweight division.
Potential opponents include Yair Rodriguez, who could be a rematch after Rodriguez`s recent win, and the undefeated Movsar Evloev. Jean Silva, who also impressed at UFC 314, is another possibility.
Volkanovski is open to fighting twice more within the next eight months. He mentioned he needs to address some minor injuries and then discuss plans with the UFC.
“I definitely plan to fight again this year, and I`m even considering having two more fights,” Volkanovski stated.
Yair Rodriguez has expressed interest in a rematch with Volkanovski at UFC 320 in Guadalajara in September. Volkanovski previously defeated Rodriguez to unify the featherweight title.
While Rodriguez might be a more popular choice, Movsar Evloev is also in contention, despite his grappling style not always being favored by UFC management. Evloev has notable wins against tough opponents.
Volkanovski, at 36, feels there isn`t a clear number one contender currently. He wants to recover fully before deciding on his next fight.
“The situation isn`t as clear as I hoped it would be, especially since I want to stay active,” Volkanovski commented. “I was expecting a more obvious next step, but it`s not there yet. We`ll have to wait and see.”
Volkanovski mentioned Movsar Evloev as a potential opponent but wants to ensure the UFC and the fans are also interested in that matchup. Ultimately, Volkanovski aims to be active enough to face multiple challengers this year.
He is ready to take on whoever is next and potentially fit in two more fights before the year ends.
