Negotiations are reportedly in the final stages for a rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois, promising another thrilling showdown for the undisputed heavyweight title.
These two boxers previously met in 2023, where Usyk, with a record of 23 wins and no losses (14 KOs), defended his heavyweight belts by securing a TKO victory in the ninth round. The fight, however, was marked by controversy in the fifth round.
Dubois, now holding a record of 22 wins and 2 losses (21 KOs), maintains his stance that the controversial blow in the fifth round was a legitimate body shot. He believes the referee`s decision unjustly deprived him of a significant win.
Regardless of the past debate, both fighters, recognized as top contenders in the heavyweight division, are seemingly on track to settle their rivalry in the ring soon.
According to boxing journalist Mike Coppinger, both camps are close to finalizing an agreement for their fight to be held at Wembley Stadium in London, England, on July 12th.
Since his defeat against Usyk, Dubois has demonstrated significant improvement, achieving impressive knockout victories against Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and Anthony Joshua.
The 27-year-old Dubois, appearing much stronger and more skilled, currently holds the IBF title, which Usyk previously relinquished.
Usyk became a two-division undisputed champion after defeating Tyson Fury last year, though in their rematch, Fury reclaimed three of the four major titles despite another compelling performance from Usyk.
With Usyk aiming to regain his IBF belt, this rematch with Dubois appears to be on the verge of confirmation.
The only potential obstacle is Joseph Parker, the WBO mandatory challenger, who is technically next in line to face Usyk. However, it seems the WBO has likely permitted Queensberry promoter Frank Warren and Usyk’s manager, Alexander Krassyuk, to proceed with arrangements for the Dubois fight.
