UFC Seattle Medical Suspensions: Cejudo Receives Indefinite Suspension for Eye Injury

Sports news » UFC Seattle Medical Suspensions: Cejudo Receives Indefinite Suspension for Eye Injury

Henry Cejudo experienced a tough night at UFC Seattle.

The former two-division champion sustained a significant eye injury from multiple eye pokes, impairing his vision and leading to the fight’s stoppage against Song Yadong. Consequently, Cejudo lost by technical decision as the fight went to scorecards after three completed rounds.

This defeat marks Cejudo’s third consecutive loss and results in an indefinite medical suspension. He is suspended until an ophthalmologist clears him from his eye injury.

The Washington State Department of Licensing released the medical suspensions for the UFC Seattle event.

Cejudo needs clearance to lift the medical suspension, with a minimum suspension period until March 24 and no contact until March 15.

After the fight, Cejudo reported suffering from double vision, soft tissue damage, and corneal abrasion due to the eye poke.

Song Yadong also faces a potentially long suspension until August 21, although the reason for this extended period is unclear. Typically, doctor’s clearance can override medical suspensions. Song has not scheduled another fight since UFC Seattle, so his return date is uncertain.

Nikolay Veretennikov received another notable suspension after his TKO loss to Austin Vanderford. He is suspended until August 21, pending an MRI and doctor’s clearance for a right shoulder injury, with a minimum suspension until April 8.
