Jean Silva is closer to realizing his dream after defeating Bryce Mitchell at UFC 314 and earning a $50,000 performance bonus on Saturday night in Miami. However, his dream isn`t related to UFC championships.
Silva, known as “Lord,” had mentioned before the fight that his true aspiration was to marry his partner, Carolina de Castro, in a church, which requires significant funds. Following his submission victory in the second round on April 12th, Silva explained that his wedding celebration would be “very expensive” but is now “very close” to becoming a reality.
“We should have already been married, but we really want the famous Brazilian singer Belo to perform at our wedding,” Silva stated at the post-fight press conference. “I’m making a plea here, Belo, please lower your price, brother. It’s too high! Otherwise, I’ll have to fight four more times and sign another new contract.”
Reports from April 2024 indicate that Belo charges $120,000 per concert.
“Do you think if I invite Dana to be my best man, he would cover Belo’s fee?” Silva playfully questioned.
When UFC CEO Dana White appeared for the post-event media conference, the question was relayed to him.
“I need more details on this,” White responded with a smile, “but I’m probably in.”
The Silva versus Mitchell fight was highly anticipated, and Silva delivered an impressive performance, improving his UFC record to 5-0 with five bonus awards.
“I’m sure I’m the people’s hero now,” Silva declared. “They needed one, and Jean ‘Lord’ Silva has arrived.”
Known for his knockout power, the featherweight fighter surprised Mitchell by submitting him with a ninja choke on the ground.
“Training was much harder than the fight itself,” Silva commented. “This shows the excellent work done by Pablo [Sucupira] and Flavio [Alvaro] with us. We’ve seen success with [Mauricio] Ruffy recently, me previously, and now again. And Carlos Prates is next. Get used to seeing this, everyone.”
