UFC Fighter Jack Jenkins Hospitalized with Throat Injury Following UFC 312 Bout

Australian UFC fighter Jack Jenkins experienced a challenging aftermath following his match at UFC 312. Initially discharged after post-fight medical checks, Jenkins was later readmitted to the hospital due to a severe throat injury.

During his preliminary card bout against Gabriel Santos, Jenkins showed promise in the first round, even managing to knock down his opponent. However, Santos gained the upper hand as the fight progressed, ultimately submitting Jenkins via rear-naked choke in the third round.

Following the event, medical professionals discovered fractured cartilage in Jenkins’ thyroid, necessitating his return to the hospital. The fighter spent the weekend under close medical supervision in the intensive care unit before being released on Monday.

Jenkins’ team believes the injury occurred towards the end of the first round, as he reported numbness and weakness in his left arm to his corner between rounds. This setback brings Jenkins’ UFC record to 3-2, with an overall professional MMA record of 13-4.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the physical risks fighters face in the octagon, even when injuries may not be immediately apparent during or immediately after a bout.
