UFC 317 Weigh-Ins: All Fighters Cleared to Compete (Mostly)

Ilia Topuria`s weigh-in for his anticipated return to the lightweight division experienced a brief moment of confusion.

The former featherweight champion was the first fighter to step onto the scale during the official UFC 317 weigh-ins on Friday morning. He appeared fully confident of easily making the 155-pound limit. However, when Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Jeff Mullen initially read out the weight, he stated it was 155.5 pounds, which is over the allowed limit for a lightweight championship bout.

Initially, there was no clear reaction from anyone, and Topuria began his standard post-weigh-in pose. He was then instructed to remain on the scale. Mullen returned, made an adjustment to the scale, and then corrected his previous announcement, stating, “155, I misspoke.”

The lightweight championship main event for Saturday was soon confirmed as official. Charles Oliveira also successfully made weight, hitting the scale slightly below the limit at 154.5 pounds. Topuria and Oliveira are competing for the vacant belt, which was recently given up by former pound-for-pound number one Islam Makhachev, who is reportedly moving up to challenge welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena.

Lightweight backup fighter Arman Tsarukyan also successfully weighed in at the championship limit of 155 pounds.

In the co-main event, flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja and his challenger Kai Kara-France both made weight without issue, registering at 125 pounds.

One significant change was announced during the official weigh-ins: a preliminary bout between Christopher Ewert and Jackson McVey was cancelled. Ewert had stepped in on very short notice to replace Sedriques Dumas. However, officials stated at the start of the morning weigh-ins that Ewert was removed from the fight due to weight-cutting difficulties.
