Tyson Fury is known for his retirements. The former heavyweight champion has a history of announcing he’s done with boxing, only to consider comebacks later.
After his recent loss to Oleksandr Usyk, Fury once again mentioned retirement. While he might be tempted to return for a high-profile fight, perhaps against Anthony Joshua, he is currently inactive in boxing.
Fury has been involved in other projects recently, including a management role in Soccer Aid, which initially sparked rumors of a boxing return.
Mauricio Sulaiman, president of the WBC, has stated that if Fury decides to box again, he would be offered a fight against Agit Kabayel, the current WBC interim champion.
Kabayel from Germany recently defeated Zhilei Zhang. He is seeking bigger fights, and Sulaiman suggests that a fight with a returning Fury would be a significant opportunity.
Sulaiman emphasized the WBC’s commitment to having an undisputed heavyweight champion, stating their support for making the best fights happen.
The IBF previously took away Oleksandr Usyk’s undisputed status by stripping him of their title, which was then won by Daniel Dubois. Dubois might now face Usyk in a rematch.
A similar situation occurred with Canelo Alvarez in the super-middleweight division when he lost his IBF belt. Canelo is now aiming to regain it to become undisputed champion again.
Sulaiman further commented on the undisputed title situation, expressing disappointment at Usyk losing a belt and mentioning the possibility of Usyk and Dubois fighting for the undisputed title again. He stated the WBC would not interfere.
It remains uncertain whether Fury will return to boxing. However, his reputation and popularity in the sport mean that opportunities for significant fights will be available to him should he choose to resume his boxing career.
