Preparations for the main card of the highly anticipated Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford boxing match are progressing, with Turki Alalshikh hinting at the inclusion of a significant heavyweight contest.
Canelo Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) is set to challenge Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) for the undisputed super-middleweight championship on September 13th. The fight will headline an event at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Promoting this major event alongside Alalshikh is UFC President Dana White. Their collaboration marks a significant step in solidifying their new promotional alliance.
To enhance the overall fight night experience, which will be streamed live on Netflix, Alalshikh is actively planning the undercard bouts.
The Saudi boxing head aims to feature a diverse range of talent, especially in the preliminary fights, but his focus is also on assembling three compelling main card matchups.
According to Alalshikh, one potential main card fight is a heavyweight clash between Jared Anderson and Jarrell Miller. This matchup could potentially determine who earns the `Big Baby` nickname.
Alalshikh stated, “The main card will consist of four fights. We will have Canelo-Crawford, the co-main event, and two additional fights. One possibility is Jared Anderson versus Jarrell Miller, if we can finalize it.”
Miller has a history of testing positive for performance-enhancing substances. He was originally scheduled to face Fabio Wardley recently. However, Miller withdrew from that fight, which has unexpectedly positioned him as a potential participant on the Canelo-Crawford event.
Jared Anderson, meanwhile, experienced a difficult fifth-round stoppage loss to Martin Bakole last year, a result that arguably diminished some of the excitement surrounding his prospect status. The 25-year-old Anderson has since secured a unanimous decision win against Marios Kollias. However, his performance in that 10-round bout revealed some areas of vulnerability.
Regardless, a potential clash between Miller and Anderson seems possible in the near future, a fight that could prove quite interesting for boxing fans.
