TUF 33 Coaches Pitch Innovative Staff Showdown for Season Finale

Although Chael Sonnen and Daniel Cormier won’t be facing each other in the octagon at the conclusion of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season 33, they’ve proposed an intriguing alternative. Both coaches have suggested a match between members of their respective coaching teams.

During the TUF 33 media event, Cormier clarified, “We won’t be fighting each other. I’ve expressed to Dana that I’m not interested in fighting anyone. He was teasing us about potential offers, but I’ve made it clear that I have no desire to compete.”

However, Cormier and Sonnen have devised an exciting proposition. “We’ve got Michael Chiesa on my coaching staff, while Chael has Colby Covington. Why not have them face off while Chael and I coach? It’s the closest we’d get to returning to the octagon ourselves,” Cormier explained.

The upcoming TUF season will feature flyweight and welterweight competitors, with the finalists from each division competing for UFC contracts at the season’s end.

If the UFC decides to organize an official TUF Finale event, the veteran coaches believe a main event between Covington and Chiesa could be a perfect fit. Covington is looking to rebound from consecutive losses, while Chiesa rides a two-fight winning streak.

Sonnen endorsed the idea, stating, “I’m surprised no one has suggested this yet. It’s the obvious match-up. I doubt Colby and Chiesa will make it through this process without crossing paths.”

Cormier added enthusiastically, “Think about how much we could build up this fight. We could stir things up between them for four weeks. It would be fantastic.”
