Trevor Peek will be sidelined from fighting for the foreseeable future due to an unfortunate incident.

What began as a typical training session for Peek took a disastrous turn when he sustained a freak leg injury while training at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas. Peek was set to face Jeong Yeong Lee in a featherweight match at UFC Des Moines on May 3rd, but this fight has now been cancelled.

Peek disclosed details of his injury in an Instagram post, where he stated that he fractured his leg at the Performance Institute. He clarified that it`s not a severe fracture, but further CT scans are needed to assess potential ligament damage.

In his video message, Peek explained the unusual circumstances of the injury: “I wish I had a cool story about how it happened, but I was just jump roping on soft mats. I was alternating legs and had been jumping rope for about 20 minutes. Getting a bit tired and losing focus, I came down with my full weight on my left leg, and it popped loudly, like a shotgun.”

This setback prevents Peek from making his first appearance of 2025, following a challenging 0-2 record in 2024. He has experienced recent defeats against Yanal Ashmouz and Charlie Campbell, bringing his UFC record to 1 win and 3 losses.

Peek believes that if the injury had occurred elsewhere, he might have attempted to conceal it and still compete on fight night. However, because it happened at the UFC facility, it was immediately known to the organization.

“Since it happened on UFC property, they were aware of it,” Peek commented. “If I could have taped it up and managed without anyone knowing, I would have tried my hardest to make the May 3rd fight. I’ve always pushed through injuries and less-than-ideal health conditions. This upcoming fight is crucial for my career, so perhaps it’s for the best that it occurred on their premises, as they made the decision to withdraw me.”

Peek mentioned speaking with UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby, and they are hoping to reschedule him for the upcoming Nashville event on July 12th. It remains uncertain whether UFC officials will seek a replacement opponent for Jeong Yeong Lee for the Des Moines event.
