The Professional Fighters League`s 2025 season is experiencing early setbacks.
Magomed Umalatov (17-1), a leading contender in the welterweight division, has been taken out of the PFL 1 lineup and the season`s 170-pound tournament. This decision follows his failure to meet the weight requirements on Wednesday, as announced by the league in a press release. Umalatov was the runner-up in the 2024 welterweight tournament, losing to Shamil Musaev, and was scheduled to face Logan Storley (16-3) at the event in Orlando on Thursday.
Logan Storley will now face Joseph Luciano (9-2). Luciano was originally slated to compete against Sarek Shields on the preliminary portion of the event. It is currently unclear if Umalatov will be scheduled for a non-tournament fight this season.
All other participants in the welterweight tournament successfully made weight, including former Bellator champions Jason Jackson and Andrey Koreshkov, who are set to compete against each other in the opening round.
The event will also kick off the featherweight tournament, highlighted by the return of Movlid Khaybulaev, the undefeated 2021 league champion, as he faces Jeremy Kennedy. Additionally, the 2023 champion Jesus Pinedo is matched against Adam Borics.
