Good sense has prevailed, and Joey Spencer, an American boxer, will proceed with his fight against Tim Tszyu, a former world champion. Spencer had threatened to withdraw from the match, scheduled for this Sunday in Newcastle, Australia.
The issue arose when Spencer and his team discovered that all three judges for the fight would be Australian. This caused concern, and Spencer`s father and trainer, Jason Spencer, requested that two of the judges be replaced with international officials.
No Limit Boxing, the event promoter, initially faced a challenge but ultimately agreed to Spencer`s request. The Combat Authority of NSW, responsible for judge appointments, has also agreed to bring in two international judges for the fight.
George Rose, CEO of No Limit Boxing, confirmed that the fight is still on. He pointed out that in Tszyu`s previous fight against Sebastian Fundora, where Tszyu lost by split decision after suffering a bad cut, three American judges were present.
In that Fundora fight, Tszyu had a severe cut from an accidental elbow. In his most recent fight, Tszyu also endured a heavy beating over three rounds against IBF titleholder Bakhram Murtazaliev.
Therefore, Tim Tszyu, with a record of 24-2 (17 KOs), is under significant pressure to perform well and return to the top level in the 154lb division, especially after these recent setbacks and pre-fight concerns.
Joey Spencer, with a record of 19-1 (11 KOs), is a serious opponent. His only loss was against Jesus Ramos Jr., a top contender.
