The highly anticipated light-heavyweight clash between British boxer Shakan Pitters and European champion Daniel Blenda Dos Santos has been called off for the second time.
Originally scheduled for February, the fight was initially postponed due to concerns arising from Dos Santos` medical examinations before the bout. It was then rescheduled for this Friday.
Pitters, eager to stay active, recently secured a second-round victory against Bahadur Karami as a substitute opponent, keeping himself sharp for his European title opportunity.
However, promoter Izzy Asif of GBM Sports announced today via Instagram that Dos Santos, 35, has been hospitalized and is unable to compete in the fight against Pitters, 22-1 (10 KOs).
Asif reassured fans that Pitters is not in a critical situation, despite the setback. Pitters himself confirmed on Instagram his hope for a quick recovery and a rescheduled title fight.
Despite this cancellation, Asif is determined to keep the event at York Hall in London proceeding as planned, urgently searching for a last-minute replacement opponent for Dos Santos.
Dos Santos is perhaps most recognizable to UK fight fans for his defeat against Joshua Buatsi in 2021.
Even if Dos Santos is unable to participate, the card still features an exciting British and Commonwealth super-flyweight title fight between Emma Dolan and Lauren Parker, which could be a highlight of the evening.
The event also includes former world title challenger Hughie Fury, who aims to continue his winning streak against Dan Garber in a heavyweight match.
