Sean Strickland Discusses Coaching Changes and Pre-Fight Challenges Ahead of UFC 312
Sean Strickland, the former UFC middleweight champion, has indicated that his coaching team may undergo changes for his next fight following a difficult night at UFC 312. In a video posted on social media, Strickland addressed his performance in the rematch against Dricus du Plessis and responded to comments made by Xtreme Couture head coach Eric Nicksick.
While Strickland plans to maintain a friendship with Nicksick and continue training at Xtreme Couture, he suggested that Nicksick is unlikely to corner him in future fights. Strickland mentioned other coaches at the gym, such as Nate Pettit and Ray Sefo, as potential cornermen.
The fighter revealed significant challenges during his preparation for UFC 312, including a broken bone in his arm that required stem cell treatment in Colombia and a staph infection. Despite these setbacks, Strickland pushed through his training, determined to face du Plessis and attempt to reclaim the UFC middleweight title.
Strickland acknowledged the difficulties he faced but refused to use them as excuses for his performance. He praised du Plessis for his effort in the fight, particularly noting the moment when his nose was broken multiple times in a single round.
Reflecting on his motivations, Strickland emphasized that he doesn’t fight for belts or recognition but for personal growth and the connections he’s made through the sport. He expressed gratitude for the positive impact fighting has had on his life and his appreciation for his fans.
Looking ahead, Strickland affirmed his commitment to the sport, stating that he has many fights left on his contract and is eager to return to training and start fresh.
