Rhys Edwards Sets Sights on British Title After Signing Long-Term Contract with Boxxer
Promising featherweight boxer Rhys Edwards is looking to capitalize on his recent success in 2025, with plans for a British title challenge and a homecoming bout in Wales.
Following an impressive performance against Peter McGrail, Edwards has recently inked a long-term agreement with Boxxer. This move clearly signals his ambition to bounce back from his recent loss and accelerate his career in the professional ranks.
Despite taking the McGrail fight on short notice last December, Edwards (16-1, 4 KOs) demonstrated his technical skills against the super-bantamweight contender. Although he lost a controversial unanimous decision, his fluid movement and boxing prowess earned him significant recognition.
Prior to that, Edwards, under the guidance of experienced trainer Gary Lockett, delighted his home crowd with a comprehensive points victory over Thomas Patrick Ward in Cardiff. The electric atmosphere at that event has fueled Edwards’ desire to headline his own show in Wales.
“The fight against Ward in Cardiff was incredible. The Welsh fans showed amazing support, and I’m very grateful,” Edwards stated. “I’d love to headline an event back home by late 2025 or early 2026.”
While eyeing a homecoming fight, Edwards is also focused on securing a shot at the prestigious British title. “My goals are to deliver strong performances, defeat quality opponents, and claim titles. I’m hoping to challenge for the British featherweight title before the year’s end,” he added.
The current British featherweight champion is Zak Miller, who recently claimed the vacant title with a majority decision win over Masood Abdulah. A potential clash between Edwards and Miller would present an intriguing matchup of contrasting styles, as both fighters vie for dominance in the domestic scene.
With his new Boxxer deal in place and clear objectives ahead, Rhys Edwards is poised to make significant strides in his boxing career over the coming months.
