Promoters Disagree on Status of Whittaker-Cameron Rematch

The boxing world is abuzz with speculation about a potential rematch between Ben Whittaker and Liam Cameron, following their controversial draw last October. However, conflicting statements from prominent promoters have left fans uncertain about the bout’s status.

Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn recently suggested that the rematch is likely to take place on April 19 in Birmingham. Hearn indicated that Boxxer promoter Ben Shalom had secured the date for a show in the Midlands, potentially featuring the Whittaker-Cameron clash as the main event.

However, Queensberry promoter Frank Warren, who represents Cameron, has cast doubt on these claims. “There’s no fight until anything’s signed,” Warren stated during a recent media event, suggesting that negotiations are still ongoing.

The first encounter between Whittaker (8-0-1, 5 KOs) and Cameron (23-6-1, 10 KOs) ended in dramatic fashion when both fighters fell out of the ring in the fifth round. Whittaker, the Olympic silver medalist, was forced to withdraw due to injury, resulting in a draw.

As talks continue, boxing fans eagerly await official confirmation of the rematch between these light-heavyweight contenders. The potential bout represents a significant test for Whittaker and an opportunity for Cameron to build on his impressive performance in their initial meeting.
