Caleb Plant and Jermall Charlo are preparing to step back into the ring on the same fight night, scheduled for May 31st at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.
These former world titleholders will compete against different opponents. Plant (23-2, 14 KOs) is set to face Armando Resendiz (15-2, 11 KOs), while Charlo (33-0, 22 KOs) will take on Thomas LaManna (39-5-1, 18 KOs) in an event promoted by PBC. If both emerge victorious, it could set the stage for a highly anticipated showdown between Plant and Charlo later in the year.
Plant, a former IBF super-middleweight champion, was last in action in January 2024, where he secured a ninth-round TKO victory against Trevor McCumby. Known as “Sweet Hands,” Plant is no stranger to intense rivalries. He has a history of conflict with Canelo Alvarez leading up to their title fight, engaged in verbal sparring with David Benavidez, and was famously involved in an altercation with Charlo backstage at the Terence Crawford-Errol Spence Jr. weigh-in in 2023. This incident, stemming from a previous disagreement, has fueled their ongoing feud. Plant, 32, has consistently called out Charlo, and their shared fight card is sure to heighten anticipation for a potential grudge match.

Charlo, on the other hand, ended a two-year period of inactivity with a victory over Jose Benavidez Jr. by decision in 2023. The 34-year-old has faced well-documented personal challenges. In May 2024, he was stripped of his WBC middleweight title – which he last defended in June 2021 – following a DWI arrest. As a move to the super-middleweight division (168 pounds) seems likely, Charlo is looking to revitalize his career. Meanwhile, his twin brother Jermell, who suffered a defeat against Canelo Alvarez in September 2023, remains out of competition.
