Paul Craig vs. Rodolfo Bellato Fight Called Off Minutes Before UFC Vegas 106

Sports news » Paul Craig vs. Rodolfo Bellato Fight Called Off Minutes Before UFC Vegas 106

The co-main event for UFC Vegas 106 was unexpectedly cancelled mere minutes before the scheduled walkouts.

The planned fight between Paul Craig and Rodolfo Bellato was removed from the card because Bellato encountered a medical issue that rendered him unable to compete. This unfortunate announcement was made during the live broadcast of UFC Vegas 106 on Saturday.

“I never thought that herpes would take me out of a fight,” Bellato revealed on Instagram. “I’m sorry all of you guys, but it’s something that’s out of our control.”

The promotion anticipates rescheduling the bout against Craig for a new date in the near future.

This development is certainly disappointing for both athletes, particularly given Bellato`s travel from Brazil and Craig`s journey to Las Vegas from his home in Scotland.

Bellato, holding an undefeated record through two UFC appearances, was looking forward to securing his biggest win yet against Craig. His overall professional mixed martial arts record stands at 12-2-1, which includes a draw against Jimmy Crute at UFC 312 back in February.

Meanwhile, Craig was set to return to the light heavyweight division, where he previously competed, following a three-fight losing streak at middleweight (185 pounds). These recent losses were against notable opponents Bo Nickal, Caio Borralho, and Brendan Allen.

An announcement regarding the rescheduled date for Craig vs. Bellato is expected shortly. In the interim, lightweights Sodiq Yusuff and Mairon Santos were promoted to the co-main event slot for UFC Vegas 106.
