Sam Patterson demonstrated he is more than just a submission expert when he spectacularly knocked out Danny Barlow in the first round of their UFC Vegas 103 fight on Saturday.
Facing an aggressive Barlow from the start, Patterson skillfully evaded early attacks before capitalizing with a perfectly timed counter punch that turned the tide. After staggering Barlow with a sharp right hook, Patterson unleashed a flurry of strikes, including another powerful right hand and rapid follow-up punches, ultimately ending the fight.
The fight was stopped in the first round, marking a significant win for Patterson, bringing his UFC record to 3-1.
“I feel amazing,” Patterson expressed after his victory. “It was incredible. I’ve always said I’m not just a grappler; I’m a complete mixed martial artist. I can do it all. He landed some good shots, but I landed the better ones in the end.”
From the opening bell, Barlow seemed confident in his striking ability, persistently trying to land a powerful left hand while Patterson circled, evading Barlow’s power side. While Barlow aggressively pursued the knockout, he seemingly neglected his defense during these exchanges.
This lapse in defense allowed Patterson to connect with a devastating right hook, immediately rocking Barlow and leaving him unsteady. Patterson pressed his advantage, dropping Barlow and continuing with fight-ending strikes until the referee stepped in.
Following the fight, Patterson revealed that this was the last fight on his current UFC contract, but his impressive performance likely secured him a new contract.
