Olympic gold medalist Kyle Snyder has spoken publicly for the first time since his arrest last Friday by Columbus Police during a sting operation related to prostitution charges.
Authorities conducted a sting operation using an online escort advertisement. This led to 16 arrests, including Snyder, who allegedly responded to the ad and arranged a meeting at a Quality Inn and Suites Hotel. Upon arrival, Snyder reportedly offered payment to an undercover officer for a sexual act, resulting in his apprehension.
Snyder addressed the incident for the first time on Wednesday via social media.
In his statement, Snyder wrote, “I want to thank everyone who has extended kindness and support. My primary focus remains on my relationship with the Lord Jesus and my family. This is not the end of my journey.”
Police later released video footage of the arrest, showing Snyder being taken into custody in handcuffs. Officers confiscated $160 in cash from Snyder before formally charging him with engaging in prostitution.
Snyder, who is considered one of America`s most decorated wrestlers, was arrested in Columbus, the city where he attended The Ohio State University and became a three-time National Champion during his collegiate career.
During his four-year tenure at Ohio State, Snyder also made history by becoming the youngest American wrestler to win an Olympic gold medal, securing the championship at the 2016 games. He later earned a silver medal at the 2020 Olympics but did not medal in his third Olympic appearance, which occurred in Paris this past year.
Snyder is scheduled to appear in court on May 19 to address the charges resulting from his arrest.
