Oleksandr Usyk Open to Potential Matchup with Alex Pereira
Ukrainian boxing sensation Oleksandr Usyk has hinted at the possibility of facing UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira in a future bout. The undisputed heavyweight champion discussed his upcoming plans and potential opponents in a recent interview.
Usyk, who had a remarkable 2024 with two victories over Tyson Fury to claim the undisputed heavyweight title, expressed interest in a potential crossover match with Pereira. The UFC champion had previously mentioned his desire for a boxing match with Usyk.
“After the upcoming Dubois vs. Parker fight on February 22, we might consider an exhibition match with Alex Pereira,” Usyk stated. “Why not? Alex has shown interest in such a bout.”
The Ukrainian boxer also addressed the possibility of a rematch with Daniel Dubois, whom he defeated in August 2023. Usyk suggested that Dubois should focus on his upcoming fight with Joseph Parker before considering a rematch.
Regarding Tyson Fury’s recent retirement announcement, Usyk expressed skepticism about its permanence. “I believe Tyson will take some time to rest with his family, enjoy himself, and then return to the ring. He’s a great showman,” Usyk commented.
A potential matchup between Usyk and Pereira would likely generate significant interest in the combat sports world, bringing together two champions from different disciplines. As Usyk continues to consider his options, fans eagerly await news of his next move in the ring.
