Miocic Offers Guidance to Aspinall for Potential Jones Matchup
Stipe Miocic, having faced Jon Jones in his final UFC bout, has unique insights into the current heavyweight champion’s abilities. Following his loss to Jones at UFC 309 in November, Miocic retired from the sport. Now, as speculation grows about a potential clash between Jones and interim champion Tom Aspinall, Miocic has some words of wisdom for the rising British star.
“Avoid repeating my mistakes,” Miocic advised when asked what he’d tell Aspinall. He went on to praise Aspinall’s skills, saying, “Tom is incredibly tough, packs a powerful punch, and moves well for his size. If he can maintain his composure, I believe he’ll perform admirably.”
Miocic emphasized Aspinall’s strategic approach, stating, “He’s selective with his attacks and fights intelligently. I think he has a good chance.”
Reflecting on his own experience against Jones, Miocic acknowledged the champion’s exceptional abilities. “Jones is undoubtedly one of the greatest, if not the greatest, of all time,” he remarked. “His intelligence and unpredictability in the octagon are unparalleled.”
Miocic’s last UFC appearance came after a nearly four-year hiatus, as he attempted to reclaim the heavyweight title. His previous title loss was to Francis Ngannou at UFC 260 in March 2021, following two consecutive victories over Daniel Cormier.
As the MMA world eagerly anticipates Jones’ next move, Miocic’s insights provide valuable perspective on what Aspinall might face should the two champions meet in the octagon.
