Rising welterweight prospect Michael Morales appeared completely unfazed when he stopped the seasoned veteran Gilbert Burns in the main event bout at UFC Vegas 106. Morales didn`t even seem to have broken a sweat at the moment the fight was halted.
The 25-year-old fighter made his impressive victory look effortless against the perennial contender and former title challenger. It took Morales less than four minutes to secure what is arguably the biggest win of his professional career. With this dominant performance, the Ecuadorian standout pushed his unblemished pro record to a remarkable 18-0.
Morales wasted no time making an impact, visibly hurting Burns with the very first strikes he landed and sending “Durinho” to the canvas early in the round. While Burns managed to recover and secure a double-leg takedown, the grappling exchange didn`t last long. Morales quickly scrambled back to his feet and immediately resumed his striking attack, punishing the veteran fighter.
As Morales continued to land significant blows, referee Herb Dean recognized Burns was in trouble and stepped in to mercifully call a stop to the contest at the 3:39 mark of the opening round. Professional fighters across the UFC roster and various champions were reportedly watching the main event live and shared their reactions to Morales` breakout performance.
