Having previously secured a UFC contract with his powerful right hand, Malcolm Wellmaker used it again to achieve his initial victory in the promotion.
Making a spectacular debut in the octagon at UFC Kansas City on Saturday, the 30-year-old bantamweight needed under two minutes to connect with a right hook, sending his opponent Cameron Saaiman to the canvas.
Wellmaker began aggressively, pressuring Saaiman against the cage. As Saaiman tried to exit by punching, Wellmaker expertly avoided the incoming strike and retaliated with his own punch, which landed directly on Saaiman`s chin, resulting in the immediate knockout. The fight was officially stopped at the 1:59 mark of the first round.
This recent finish mirrored the performance that earned him his contract on Dana White’s Contender Series last August, where “The Machine” also secured a spot in the UFC by stopping Adam Bramhald with a right hook in just 2:29. This victory extended Wellmaker`s professional record to 9-0.
In contrast, Saaiman is currently facing a downturn. After starting his UFC career with a perfect 3-0 record, he has now suffered three consecutive losses.
