Welcome to the latest edition of Missed Fists, where we highlight exciting mixed martial arts bouts from around the world that might have been overlooked in the busy fight schedule.
With no UFC event this past weekend, regional and international promotions had a chance to shine, and they certainly delivered plenty of incredible finishes for fight fans to enjoy.
Let`s dive into some of the most memorable moments from recent events, starting with a knockout that might be the quickest of the year.
At a Vendetta Fight Nights event in Ankara, Turkey, Mahsun Sahzade needed just two seconds to secure a stunning victory with a spinning kick. While the extreme speed of the finish and potential lack of detailed official records might raise questions, the knockout itself was undeniably spectacular – a remarkable head kick ending the fight instantly.
Octagon League in Kazakhstan was particularly active this week, hosting both a main event and an Octagon Selection event, featuring notable finishes.
At Octagon League 73, Bogdan Pshebelskiy showed off his unpredictable style, securing a win with a Peruvian necktie submission. Octagon Selection 53 also featured impressive knockouts from Amir Kadamov and Mikhael Mamedov.
From DEEP Tokyo Impact, a fight featured a striking finish by Shunsuky Miyabi. Although the outcome seemed decided before the final blow, the fact that it involved a facial stomp made it noteworthy enough to include.
Cage Titans 71 saw a dominant performance by Jacob Apito, featuring a devastating elbow finish against Cole Cameron. Speaking of powerful elbows, Christopher Bajo landed significant strikes at Fight Club Rush in Malmo, Sweden, overwhelming Ali Isajew who didn`t effectively defend himself.
In Lima, Peru, at Fusion FC 90, Rangel dos Santos delivered a stunning switch knee knockout. This finish was particularly impressive as it defeated the previously undefeated Jesus Herreras and was a rare knockout for dos Santos, marking only the third TKO/KO win in his 17-fight career and the first since 2019.
From Cage Fury FC`s latest event in New Jersey, Eric Nolan secured a welterweight title with a sharp short left hand knockout against Blayne Richards. In another notable finish, Nick Galanti demonstrated effective grappling, countering Shane Sobnosky`s takedown defense by transitioning to a guillotine choke from guard and securing the submission victory.
At LFA 209 in Mato Grasso, Joseilton delivered a spectacular knockout against Carlos Petruzzella in a clash of undefeated fighters, handing Petruzzella his first career loss.
From Jungle Fight 136 in Sao Paulo, Laura Vasconcelos defended her strawweight title and maintained her undefeated 5-0 record with a quick head kick knockout. She remains a promising fighter to follow.
Finally, a knockout from the Alexander Serdyukov Memorial event in Voronezh, Russia, on May 18th recently gained attention. While slightly older, Shukhrat Mirovazov`s incredibly brutal performance is worth highlighting and provides a stark contrast to the quick finish we started with.
We started off with a 2-second spin kick knockout, but in terms of sheer brutality and impact, Shukhrat Mirovazov’s performance is hard to beat.
