Magomed Ankalaev Aims to Redefine Alex Pereira’s Career at UFC 313
Magomed Ankalaev has his sights set on more than just defeating Alex Pereira – he intends to fundamentally alter the trajectory of Pereira’s fighting career.
The two light heavyweights are slated to clash in the headlining bout of UFC 313 on March 8. Ankalaev has earned this title shot through perseverance, building an impressive 13-fight unbeaten streak over seven years. Though he may lack the star power of some of Pereira’s potential opponents, Ankalaev is determined to halt Pereira’s momentum when they meet at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Ankalaev recently took to social media, stating: “This individual continues globetrotting, seemingly forgetting he’ll be in a life-altering battle on March 8. I assure you, he will emerge a changed man after our encounter.”
This statement appears to reference Pereira’s recent travels, including a trip to Sydney to support his training partner Sean Strickland at UFC 312. Ankalaev seems unimpressed by Pereira’s growing social media presence, comparing him unfavorably to a “social media influencer.”
Ankalaev continued his verbal assault, saying: “I’ve never desired to harm someone as much as I do Alex. He presents a false humble persona.” He then contrasted their training methods, claiming he’s been engaged in intense physical preparation while Pereira has been “dancing and creating videos like a social media star.”
On paper, Ankalaev’s well-rounded skillset combining wrestling and striking appears to be a formidable challenge for Pereira. However, Pereira’s exceptional knockout power makes him one of MMA’s most dangerous strikers. It remains to be seen whether Ankalaev will risk a stand-up battle with the Brazilian knockout artist.
As UFC 313 approaches, anticipation builds for this clash of styles and personalities in the light heavyweight division.
