Luke Rockhold Blasts Sean Strickland’s ‘Inauthentic’ UFC 312 Showing
Luke Rockhold has expressed strong disapproval of Sean Strickland’s recent performance at UFC 312. Strickland failed to reclaim the UFC middleweight title, losing decisively to Dricus du Plessis in their rematch.
Rockhold criticized Strickland for not living up to his pre-fight rhetoric of fighting “to the death.” He particularly took issue with Strickland’s reaction to a broken nose in the fourth round, stating, “When your nose is broken, you need to fight like a true warrior and persevere.”
The former champion accused Strickland of being more concerned about his appearance than winning the title, questioning his dedication and character. Rockhold emphasized that true fighters must back up their words with actions in the octagon.
Rockhold isn’t alone in his criticism, as several other MMA figures have also spoken out against Strickland’s performance. Having faced similar backlash himself, Rockhold believes this criticism is justified when fighters fail to live up to their pre-fight promises.
While acknowledging Strickland as a skilled fighter, Rockhold doubts he will ever contend for a title again, stating, “Sean will likely never achieve anything significant again. He seems content just being part of the show.”
This harsh assessment comes from Rockhold’s personal interactions with Strickland at the RVCA gym years ago, where he formed a negative opinion of the fighter’s character.
