Reports indicate Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney have agreed to terms for a highly anticipated summer fight in Saudi Arabia.
The fight is expected to take place at a 145lbs catchweight on August 16, potentially on the same card as a likely rematch between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach Jr.
The specific event, potentially part of Riyadh Season, is awaiting an official announcement, but Saudi boxing power broker Turki Alalshikh is expected to confirm the news soon.
It appears Lopez (22-1, 13 KOs) has repaired his relationship with the Saudi official, enabling him to secure this profitable opportunity.
The WBO super-lightweight champion had previously put negotiations with Haney (32-0, 15 KOs) at risk following a series of unusual social media posts.
Much of his social media activity on X was directed at Alalshikh, alleging in deleted posts that he had been `fired`.
These claims arose from Lopez`s dissatisfaction with the reported purse for the Haney fight, which he felt was significantly less than what was discussed for a potential bout against unified welterweight champion Jaron Ennis.
However, following a public apology, ‘The Takeover’ seems to have overcome his previous stance and has agreed to face his fellow American competitor.
Haney has also apparently signed the contract, setting the stage for a significant clash between the two talented, albeit sometimes controversial, multi-division champions.
‘The Dream’ is coming off a performance against Jose Ramirez last month that drew widespread criticism, where he outpointed the veteran over 12 rounds that many found uninspiring.
Meanwhile, Lopez was also on that card, securing a clear unanimous decision victory over Arnold Barboza Jr., ending a series of less convincing performances.
