Liam Cameron Agrees to Box Ben Whittaker Over 10 Rounds

Sports news ยป Liam Cameron Agrees to Box Ben Whittaker Over 10 Rounds

The main event on Sunday featuring Ben Whittaker and Liam Cameron will now be a 10-round fight. This change comes after Liam Cameron, the boxer from Sheffield, agreed to the revised conditions. Initially, there was uncertainty about whether the fight would even happen because Boxxer had mistakenly scheduled it for 12 rounds.

Earlier in the week, promoter Frank Warren stated that the contract specified 12 rounds. He mentioned that a new agreement would be needed to change the duration, otherwise, legal issues could arise. Fortunately, this situation was avoided. Lee Eaton, Head of Boxing at Queensberry, confirmed that the matter has been resolved.

The two boxers will face each other at Resorts World Arena in Birmingham. This fight is a rematch of their previous, somewhat controversial bout from last October. In that fight, Whittaker started strong in Riyadh but seemed to tire as Cameron`s experience became more apparent. The fight ended in an unusual way in the fifth round when Whittaker flipped over the top rope, resulting in him leaving the venue in a wheelchair.

Despite his obvious talent and strong amateur background, Whittaker has only had eight professional fights and has never competed in a 12-round match. He still won`t in this case. This whole situation is not ideal for promoter Ben Shalom, but he managed to resolve the issues in time to save the event which is headlining on Sky Sports.

Whittaker has started training with a new coach, Andy Lee, as he aims to progress further in his professional boxing career. Cameron, a seasoned fighter, is nearing the end of his career. His career includes a period of absence due to a positive drug test for benzoylecgonine, a cocaine metabolite.

Cameron has shown good form since returning to the ring and was performing better than expected in the first fight against Whittaker. If he can maintain this form for Sunday`s fight, things could become very interesting, whether it lasts 10 rounds or less.
