Lamont Roach Targeting Weight Jump After Gervonta Davis Rematch

Lamont Roach Jr. and Gervonta Davis are set for a highly anticipated rematch following their earlier clash this year. Their previous encounter resulted in a draw, marking the first time Davis failed to secure a victory in his professional career. Now, Roach has revealed significant intentions for his future, planning a major move up in weight after their upcoming fight.

Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs), who currently reigns as the WBA super-featherweight champion, stepped up a weight class to challenge `Tank` for the WBA lightweight title back in March. The initial fight was widely expected to be a straightforward win for Davis.

However, the bout ended in a surprising majority draw against Davis, who often refers to himself as the `face of boxing`. Despite the outcome, it was Roach who expressed disappointment post-fight, feeling he had done enough to cause the upset and defeat the unbeaten Baltimore fighter.

Davis and Roach are scheduled to face off for the second time this August. Roach is seeking a decisive victory to affirm his performance, while `Tank` aims to erase the blemish on his record and re-establish his status as a pound-for-pound star.

Interestingly, Roach recently announced his post-rematch plans during a stream on his Twitch channel. He declared that, should he emerge victorious against Davis, he has no intention of staying in the lightweight division. Instead, `The Reaper` outlined his goal to ascend to the welterweight division (147 lbs) and challenge the winner of a potential fight between Brian Norman Jr. and Devin Haney for the WBC championship.

“After I beat Tank, I am fighting the winner of Devin Haney and Brian Norman, there you go.”

“I am not going to say it again, y’all can clip it and do whatever but that is what I am doing. You heard it here first.”

“At 147lbs? Yes, at 147lbs.”

Giving context to Roach`s target, Brian Norman Jr. is currently considered a strong candidate for Fighter of the Year. He has already successfully defended his title twice this year, securing both wins by knockout.

Norman, who is 24 years old and holds the distinction of being boxing`s youngest current world champion, is expected to face his toughest test yet in November, with an announcement regarding a fight against Devin Haney widely anticipated soon.
