Keith Thurman Slams Brock Jarvis: ‘Cardboard Box on Wheels’

Sports news » Keith Thurman Slams Brock Jarvis: ‘Cardboard Box on Wheels’

At a press conference in Australia, Keith Thurman wasted no time in dismissing Brock Jarvis’s chances in their upcoming fight.

The super welterweights are set to face off in a 10-round main event on Wednesday at the Hordern Pavillion in Sydney. Thurman, fighting far from home, will be making his first appearance in the ring since his victory over Mario Barrios in February 2022.

During the final press conference, the 36-year-old Thurman heavily criticized Jarvis and suggested a future rescheduled fight with Tim Tszyu.

“The world will witness what I bring, and then I’ll be ready for my next contract,” Thurman stated.

“I had already signed to fight Tim Tszyu before, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen. Maybe this year it will.”

Turning his attention to his immediate opponent, Thurman, with a record of 30-1 (22 KOs), verbally dismantled Jarvis in his characteristic style.

“He moves like a cardboard box on wheels, like a Tetris game in motion. He’s incredibly square. The guy has no head movement,” Thurman commented.

“As a two-time world champion, I’ve seen fighters like him many times. I’m not trying to underestimate him, but I’m just analyzing who they’ve put in front of me. He’s square and thinks he can land big punches on an old man.”

Jarvis, 22-1 (20 KOs), appears to be the underdog against ‘One Time’, lacking significant evidence in his record to suggest an upset. However, Thurman’s age, injury history, and recent inactivity could be points of concern for the American fighter. The Australian boxer comes into this fight with only one loss in his 23 bouts, a first-round knockout defeat by Liam Paro, from which he has been working to recover.

The 27-year-old Jarvis from Marrickville showed intense energy and clearly stated his intentions for his overseas opponent.

“Keith, I’m going to hit you, and I’m going to hurt you. Remember that. Once I get past the first round, I’m going to punch a hole in your head,” Jarvis declared.

“I saw him the other day, and he didn’t look ready at all. He looked like he’d just come from a yoga class.”

Tensions escalated when the two faced off, but promoter George Rose intervened to ensure the confrontation was saved for Wednesday’s fight.
