Josh Warrington rediscovered the winning feeling for the first time in over three years this evening, securing a clear points victory against Asad Asif Khan in Sheffield.
The judges` scores were decisively in Warrington`s favor: 99-89, 99-90, and 97-91. Warrington described the 10-round bout as a tough workout but was pleased to get back into the win column.
“I knew he was hurt, I was a little bit wild,” stated Warrington, who also confirmed his openness to a potential future fight with Michael Conlan.
He added that this performance helped him overcome some “mental demons” stemming from his previous fight against Cacace.
Asad Asif Khan, an Indian fighter who previously demonstrated his resilience against Michael Conlan, proved to be a durable opponent. The 31-year-old from Kolkata required significant grit to withstand Warrington`s pressure for the entire 10 rounds.
Trouble signs for Khan began in the fifth round, with blood appearing around his left eye and repeated issues with his gumshield.
In the sixth, Khan was deducted a point for spitting out his gumshield. This round continued to be difficult for him, as he was knocked down by a right hand to the head.
Despite the adversity, Khan displayed considerable toughness in handling Warrington`s aggressive approach as best as he could. Warrington (32-4-1, 8 KOs) consistently pressed the action, attempting to break through Khan`s defensive efforts and clinches.
Asad Asif Khan`s record now stands at 19-7-1 (5 KOs). However, based on his last two appearances in the UK, he has shown he can provide competitive rounds and demonstrate resilience, even in defeat.
