Josh Taylor Makes Welterweight Debut in Glasgow Homecoming
Former undisputed super-lightweight champion Josh Taylor is set to make his welterweight debut against ex-British champion Ekow Essuman in Glasgow, Scotland this May. The bout will headline Queensberry Promotions’ third event on DAZN, as announced by promoter Frank Warren.
Taylor, boasting a record of 19-2 (13 KOs), returns to Glasgow for the first time since his controversial split decision win over Jack Catterall in 2022. The Scottish fighter faced setbacks in his recent outings, losing to Teofimo Lopez and then falling short in the Catterall rematch last year.
Essuman, with a 21-1 (8 KOs) record, has bounced back with two convincing victories since losing his British and Commonwealth titles to Harry Scarff in 2023. At 35, “The Engine” continues to prove his worth with his relentless fighting style.
The undercard features an exciting featherweight clash between undefeated Nathaniel Collins and former European bantamweight champion Lee McGregor. McGregor is coming off a strong performance against Isaac Lowe, while Collins, a former British champion, is known for his powerful punching from the southpaw stance.
Also on the card, rising cruiserweight Aloys Junior will face Scotland’s David Jamieson, aiming to continue his impressive run in the division.
This event marks an important step for Taylor as he seeks to make his mark in the welterweight division, while also providing Scottish fight fans with a thrilling night of boxing action.
