Jon Jones appears to be considering a return to fighting, potentially eyeing a significant upcoming opportunity.
Following President Donald Trump`s announcement regarding plans to host a UFC event at The White House to commemorate Independence Day in 2026, several fighters responded enthusiastically. Among them was Conor McGregor, who expressed interest in competing on the proposed card.
Now, Jones, 37, who previously announced his retirement in June, is hinting at a comeback. The former heavyweight and light heavyweight champion posted on social media, stating, “Fighting at The White House?” accompanied by an eyes emoji.
Adding further speculation, Jones subsequently wrote that he “Just re-entered the testing pool, that lasted for about two weeks. Figured we`d keep everyone`s options open.”
Jones declared his retirement on June 21 after a period of limited activity. Although he added the UFC heavyweight title to his list of accomplishments during this time, he only competed twice since 2020. Throughout this stretch, Jones frequently faced criticism for not fighting Tom Aspinall, the interim champion who clearly desired a unification bout. Aspinall was subsequently promoted to undisputed champion status in Jones`s absence.
It is highly likely that Trump would be eager to have Jones participate in the event. The president attended Jones`s most recent fight at UFC 309 in New York, where Jones successfully defended his title against Stipe Miocic. Jones celebrated his victory by mimicking one of Trump`s notable dances before greeting the president cage-side.
