Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall, despite potential disagreements on other topics, share the same stance when it comes to letting the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) be the sole source for announcing details about their anticipated clash.
While recently in Thailand for filming a reality show, Jones held a seminar this past weekend. During the event, he was questioned about the schedule for his long-awaited heavyweight title unification bout against Aspinall. Jones had previously indicated that the UFC was aware of his future plans, which might be why the promotion has not yet addressed calls for him to be stripped of his championship.
It has been only six months since Jones last competed, and it appears he has been in discussions with the UFC regarding his potential return date.
Addressing attendees at his seminar, Jones commented:
The UFC, Tom, and I have a lot of things happening behind the scenes. They are one of the biggest organizations in sports, and right now Tom and I have agreed to wait for the UFC to make their announcements. So, legally, I really cannot talk about it.
Aspinall recently conveyed a similar sentiment. After teasing potential news on social media, he subsequently clarified emphatically that he does not announce his own fights, leaving that responsibility entirely to the UFC.
For several weeks now, both Jones and Aspinall have been engaging in public exchanges through interviews and online posts, highlighting the increasing frustration over the lack of confirmed information regarding their potential showdown.
UFC CEO Dana White has consistently guaranteed that this fight will ultimately happen. However, Aspinall has repeatedly voiced his impatience as he nears a full year since his last victory in July 2023.
Jones`s latest statement, while not providing a definitive timeline, does suggest that he is in active communication with the UFC and acknowledges that a bout against Aspinall is the matchup the public is eagerly awaiting.
