British boxing trainer Joe Gallagher was unable to elicit a reaction from the composed Lauren Price during the pre-fight press conference for her upcoming unification match against Natasha Jonas.
The two welterweight champions are set to compete tomorrow night as the main event of a Boxxer all-women’s card at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Jonas, holding the WBC and IBF titles with a record of 16 wins, 2 losses, 1 draw, and 9 knockouts, has secured seven victories since her close decision loss to Katie Taylor in 2021.
Her most significant win came against WBO champion Mikaela Mayer last year in a hard-fought battle that Jonas narrowly won by split decision.
Price, the WBA titleholder with an undefeated record of 8 wins and 2 knockouts, has maintained a perfect record since winning gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
While her undefeated run has largely been against less experienced opponents, a notable victory over former undisputed champion Jessica McCaskill last year earned Price her WBA belt.
With both Jonas and Price in excellent form, their fight for three of the major titles in the 147lb welterweight division is highly anticipated to be an explosive encounter.
However, the sparks seemed to fly early as Jonas’ trainer, Gallagher, attempted to provoke Price at today’s press conference.
Gallagher initially voiced his frustration over Price’s absence from media obligations the previous day, hinting that she might be struggling with weight.
Price, a skilled southpaw, responded by confirming she had successfully completed her check weigh-in that morning in Sheffield, where she trains with coach Robert McCracken.
By the end of their exchange, both camps appeared to reach a more respectful understanding before their intriguing fight on Friday.
