WBC super-flyweight champion Jesse `Bam` Rodriguez is expected to face off against newly crowned WBO titlist Phumelela Cafu in a highly anticipated unification bout this summer.

Although a specific date and location have not yet been confirmed, the unification fight, likely to headline a card in the United States, is anticipated for July.

Colin Nathan, Cafu`s trainer and manager, recently confirmed via social media that `serious discussions` are ongoing between his NO DOUBT Management team and Eddie Hearn`s Matchroom Boxing.

Shortly after, promoter Eddie Hearn indicated to Boxing News that an announcement about Rodriguez`s next fight is imminent, strongly suggesting that Cafu (11-0-3, 8 KOs) is the likely opponent.

Hearn stated, “His next fight will be in July. We`ll announce it soon, and it will be a unification matchup.”

Cafu secured his WBO title at 115 lbs last October by defeating Kosei Tanaka via split decision, a significant upset victory.

Following his strong performance abroad, the 26-year-old was initially preparing for a voluntary title defense, potentially a highly anticipated homecoming bout in South Africa.

However, that planned fight, originally set for May 24, will not proceed, which has fueled speculation that a clash with the undefeated Rodriguez (21-0, 14 KOs) is next.

`Bam` is coming off a third-round knockout win against Pedro Guevara. Before that, he secured impressive stoppage victories over top-tier opponents like Juan Francisco Estrada and Sunny Edwards.

Facing experienced fighters such as Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Carlos Cuadras, the 25-year-old has solidified his status as a pound-for-pound contender and a formidable force in the lower weight classes.

While WBA titlist Fernando Martinez is scheduled for a rematch with Kazuto Ioka on May 11, it appears Rodriguez is still set to pursue a unification opportunity in the division.
