Jake Paul and Matchroom Boxing have come to an agreement to settle their legal dispute, leading to a request for the court to dismiss their respective lawsuits.
Legal documents submitted to the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York on Monday indicate that lawyers representing all involved parties have asked for a dismissal. This follows a previous announcement that a settlement had been reached.
According to Monday`s court filing:
“The legal representatives for all parties in this case, in accordance with Rule 41(a)(1)(ii) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, hereby agree that the aforementioned action is dismissed with prejudice and without either party being responsible for costs or fees.”
In a separate document filed on March 18, lawyers for Paul and Matchroom Boxing, headed by Eddie Hearn, along with judge Glenn Feldman, informed the court about the settlement and the intention to file for dismissal by March 31, 2025.
The conflict originated from comments and accusations made by Paul regarding a controversial decision in the first fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano in 2022, as well as a separate match between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua.
Matchroom Boxing`s initial lawsuit claimed that Paul made defamatory statements suggesting Matchroom Boxing had “bribed” judge Feldman to sway the outcomes of two boxing matches he judged.
In an interview, Paul asserted that “it`s clear [Glenn Feldman] is receiving payment from Matchroom Boxing” after Feldman scored the fights in favor of Taylor and Joshua, both of whom are promoted by Hearn. Paul described it as “an accusation that [he doesn’t] take lightly” but added “it’s just so obvious they aren`t even trying to hide it.”
Consequently, Matchroom Boxing initiated a defamation lawsuit against Paul, and Feldman joined as a co-plaintiff in October 2022.
Despite the ongoing legal battle, Paul`s Most Valuable Promotions and Hearn`s Matchroom Boxing collaborated to promote the rematch between Taylor and Serrano last November. A third fight is already scheduled for July 11 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
A settlement conference was initially planned last December after Judge Paul Gardephe of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York rejected Paul`s request to dismiss the lawsuit in September. This rejection led to a pre-trial conference a few weeks later.
The specifics of the settlement agreement remain confidential, but it appears all parties are satisfied with the resolution, as indicated by their joint request for dismissal from the courts.
