Ian Machado Garry is generating excitement among fans for his upcoming fight this Saturday.
The rising welterweight star will make his octagon appearance in 2025 as he faces Carlos Prates in the main event at UFC Kansas City. This fight marks Garry`s return to the octagon since his unanimous decision loss to Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310 in December, a fight considered Rakhmonov`s toughest contest to date.
Garry accepted to fight Prates on short notice after the original main event between Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree was postponed. Prates was initially scheduled for UFC 314 but was moved due to his opponent Geoff Neal suffering an injury. Garry`s latest promotional video emphasizes his willingness to take on challenging matchups.
The defeat by Rakhmonov was the first in Garry’s professional career, ending his 15-fight winning streak, which included victories in his first eight UFC bouts. The 27-year-old fighter`s impressive UFC run includes wins against Geoff Neal, Daniel Rodriguez, Neil Magny, and Michael Page.
Prates is set for his second consecutive main event after securing a first-round knockout victory over Neil Magny in November at UFC Vegas 100. Notably, Prates, a Contender Series standout, has finished all four of his UFC opponents by knockout.
