Former two-division UFC champion Henry Cejudo recently found himself in a real-life situation demanding his unique skills, even without a scheduled fight.
Over the weekend, Cejudo`s producer, Dylan Rush, shared a video where Cejudo detailed a remarkable event. According to Cejudo, he played a role in apprehending a suspect in his neighborhood who had crashed a car and then assaulted a resident.
Cejudo explained that he and Dylan Rush witnessed a car speeding excessively, estimating around 80 mph. They then saw the car crash into a neighbor`s yard after going up a ramp.
Video footage shared by Rush shows the suspect being wrestled to the ground and a man, presumably Cejudo`s neighbor, with a visible head injury. Cejudo stated that the driver of the vehicle attacked his neighbor, prompting Cejudo to step in.
“The guy got up and tried to flee, and then he ended up assaulting the homeowner,” Cejudo said. “Once he hit my neighbor, who is in his 60s, I had to intervene, take him down, and restrain him. Some neighbors also assisted.”
Dylan Rush also gave his account of the incident in an Instagram post, stating that Cejudo apprehended a driver who attempted to flee after a hit and run.
Rush detailed that the driver was speeding at 80 mph in a residential area before crashing into a house across from Cejudo`s. After exiting the vehicle, the driver tried to run away. When the 65-year-old homeowner intervened, the driver punched him multiple times before Cejudo chased him down and subdued him. Rush added that a neighbor pointed a gun at the suspect, leading to his cooperation before the Phoenix Police Department arrived.
In related news, Cejudo last competed in the UFC in Seattle this past February, where he lost to Song Yadong due to a technical decision after an accidental eye poke. His record is 0-3 since his return from retirement in 2023.
Cejudo has mentioned considering retiring again due to lingering issues from the eye injury.
