Harlem Eubank is determined to eliminate any doubt about his status as a legitimate world-level contender in the welterweight division.
Last month, the 31-year-old extended his undefeated record against veteran Tyrone McKenna. He delivered a polished performance, stopping the resilient fighter in the tenth round with a stunning finish.
During his knockout victory, which captivated his local fans in Brighton, the slick boxer knocked down his tough opponent twice in a completely dominant display.
Now 21-0 with 9 KOs, Eubank has firmly established himself as a local star on England`s South Coast. He is also showcasing his skills to a much larger audience via Channel 5.
With no intention of slowing his progress, the Brighton native is now seeking to test his abilities against proven world-class operators.
Former undisputed title challenger Jack Catterall has emerged as one potential opponent. The tricky southpaw would undoubtedly represent a significant challenge for Eubank.
Despite a very close split decision loss to Arnold Barboza Jr in his most recent outing, the 31-year-old has previously shown against fighters like Josh Taylor and Regis Prograis that he possesses sophisticated and versatile skills.
Catterall, with a record of 30-2 (13 KOs), has not yet moved up to the 147lb division. However, many suspect he would adapt seamlessly to the higher weight class.
Regardless, it appears ‘El Gato,’ who is promoted by Matchroom Boxing, is high on Eubank’s list of desired opponents, alongside a more enigmatic fighter.
Eubank told Boxing News: “I`ve been training hard, so I`m ready and waiting for a big fight to be delivered.”
He continued: “I think [my performance against McKenna] showed everyone that I`m ready to compete at world level. I`m ready to challenge for world titles, and those are the types of fights I`m looking to make next.”
Regarding potential opponents, Eubank stated: “I`m looking at fighting this summer. We`ve called for [the Catterall fight], and there have been positive talks from both sides. So now we`re waiting for an offer [from Matchroom], and hopefully, that offer reflects the kind of challenge and fighter Jack Catterall is.”
He also revealed: “There`s also talk of a big fighter from the US coming over to Brighton, so it`s exciting either way. Ideally, we`d like to fight a former world champion.”
While the identity of this potential American opponent remains a mystery, given Eubank`s goal to climb the IBF rankings, Alexis Rocha could be a possible option.
A victory over the current fifth-ranked contender would, in fact, provide Eubank with a direct path towards achieving his dream of winning a world title.
