Gregory Rodrigues Discloses Post-Weigh-In Difficulties After UFC Vegas 102 Loss
Brazilian UFC fighter Gregory Rodrigues, known as “Robocop,” has opened up about the difficulties he faced following his weight cut for UFC Vegas 102. Despite a strong start against Jared Cannonier in his first UFC main event, Rodrigues was unable to maintain his initial momentum.
Rodrigues began the fight impressively, knocking Cannonier down multiple times in the first round. However, his performance declined in subsequent rounds. Cannonier managed to turn the tables, severely hurting Rodrigues with a powerful elbow strike at the end of the third round, leading to a stoppage early in the fourth.
In a social media statement on his 33rd birthday, Rodrigues addressed his defeat and mentioned experiencing “several issues” prior to the fight. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete against a top-ranked opponent and acknowledged the valuable lessons learned from the experience.
Rodrigues revealed that he struggled significantly with his post-weigh-in recovery, stating, “My body simply wasn’t responding.” He pondered how the fight might have unfolded had he been at full capacity. Despite this setback, Rodrigues maintained a positive outlook, affirming his determination to improve and continue his UFC journey.
This loss ended Rodrigues’ three-fight winning streak, bringing his UFC record to 7-3 since joining the organization in 2021. The former LFA middleweight champion had previously secured five of his seven UFC victories by stoppage.
Meanwhile, Cannonier’s victory marked a return to form after consecutive losses to Nassourdine Imavov and Caio Borralho.
