Sports news » Gilbert Burns and Michael Morales to Headline UFC Vegas 106

The highly anticipated welterweight clash featuring Gilbert Burns and Michael Morales has been shifted from the UFC 315 main card, initially set for May 10th, to the main event of UFC Vegas 106 on May 17th. The event will take place at the UFC APEX facility.

This schedule change was announced during the UFC 314 broadcast.

Gilbert Burns, currently ranked No. 7 in the welterweight division by MMA Fighting Global Rankings, will face the undefeated Michael Morales, who is on the verge of breaking into the top 15 rankings.

The reasons behind the shift from the UFC 315 event in Montreal to a UFC Fight Night show in Las Vegas are not yet clear.

Burns, with a record of 22 wins and 8 losses, is seeking to break a three-fight losing streak. His recent defeats were against current champion Belal Muhammad, and top welterweight contenders Jack Della Maddalena and Sean Brady. Since his title challenge against Kamaru Usman in 2021, Burns has a record of 3 wins and 4 losses in his last seven fights, with an overall UFC record of 15-8.

Morales, representing Ecuador and boasting a perfect record of 17-0, is entering the most significant fight of his career. He has secured five consecutive victories in the UFC since his successful appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series. His most recent victory was a first-round finish against Neil Magny in August, which also earned him a bonus.

UFC 315 will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena, with Valentina Shevchenko defending her flyweight title against Manon Fiorot in the co-main event.
