A second fight between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach Jr is reportedly being scheduled for either July or August.
The two boxers previously met last month in a contest that ended in controversy. Davis, known as `Tank`, claimed that hair grease affected his vision, causing him to take a knee during the ninth round.
Before and immediately after this incident, Roach, who holds a record of 25-1-2 with 10 knockouts, delivered a performance that was more aggressive than many had predicted, frequently advancing with forward pressure.
Although a ninth-round knockdown would typically score a 10-8 round in favor of the fighter who scored it, referee Steve Willis ultimately decided that Davis, whose record stands at 30-0-1 with 28 knockouts, should not have the round scored 10-8 against him, even though he had touched the canvas.
This decision resulted in the bout being declared a draw.
It is now reported that a rematch between the two lightweights is being considered for the late summer period, with Davis`s WBA world title expected to be on the line once more.
Premier Boxing Champions (PBC), who promote Davis, had apparently initially looked at June 21 as a potential date for the return bout.
However, given that PBC is arranging a series of other significant fights, such as Tim Tszyu against Keith Thurman and Sebastian Fundora versus Xander Zayas, it seems more logical for the Davis-Roach 2 fight to take place later in the year.
Lamont Roach Jr currently holds a WBA world super-featherweight title at 130 pounds. However, as the potential rematch against Davis approaches, it is anticipated that `The Reaper` will vacate this championship soon.
