Champion boxer Gervonta “Tank” Davis has reportedly encountered further legal difficulties, facing a battery charge stemming from an alleged incident in Florida. The reported arrest centers around an alleged physical altercation involving an ex-girlfriend.
According to available reports, Davis was taken into custody on Friday morning in Miami Beach. This action is said to relate to an event that purportedly took place on June 15th – a date recognized as Father`s Day – at the residence of his ex-girlfriend in Doral, Florida.
Details emerging from the Doral Police Department`s arrest report indicate the situation arose during a planned pickup of the couple`s children, over whom Davis and the alleged victim share custody. An argument reportedly ensued between the parents. Following this dispute, Davis is alleged to have stated he would no longer be taking the children as arranged. The report further details accusations that as the alleged victim reached for their daughter who was seated in the backseat of a vehicle, Davis struck her in the back of the head and subsequently slapped her face.
Davis, aged 30, is no stranger to interactions with law enforcement, particularly concerning allegations of domestic disturbances. This latest report marks at least the third known instance where the prominent athlete has faced public scrutiny or charges related to alleged assaults on women.
Previously, in February 2020, Davis was arrested on charges of simple battery/domestic violence. That incident reportedly involved video footage purportedly showing him aggressively pulling an ex-girlfriend away from a public event. Later, in December 2022, just ahead of a scheduled championship bout, he was charged with battery domestic violence following allegations from a woman who claimed he had slapped her and that she feared for her life. While that specific accusation was later withdrawn, allowing his fight to proceed the following month, it contributed to a pattern of concerning reports.
This incident occurs during what has arguably been a tumultuous period for Davis, both inside and outside the ring. His recent fight in March against Lamont Roach included a controversial moment where Davis took a knee, citing an issue with his eyes, which was not ruled a knockdown by the referee. The bout ultimately concluded in a majority draw, allowing Davis to retain his WBA title, but not without adding another chapter to his high-profile and often complicated public narrative.
