Former lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. has resumed training in preparation for a likely match against IBF world super-lightweight champion Richardson Hitchins.
In his recent fight, the 31-year-old secured a unanimous decision victory over late replacement opponent Jake Wyllie. Kambosos faced challenges in that bout and sustained a cut.
Promoter Eddie Hearn has suggested June 21st as a potential date for a fight with Hitchins. The boxers have been engaged in social media exchanges.
Hitchins is recognized for his win against Liam Paro. Kambosos has yet to rediscover his peak form since his victory over Teofimo Lopez in 2021, and defeats to Devin Haney and Vasyl Lomachenko have raised questions about his standing.
Nevertheless, Kambosos is expected to get another opportunity to become a two-division world champion in a fight against Hitchins, likely in New York. Kambosos posted a video of his training, expressing readiness and confidence in winning in New York. It appears the cut sustained in his last fight is not a concern for Kambosos`s team.
