Sports news ยป Garcia vs. Romero Event Set for Times Square

Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney have opponents, and now the date and place for their fights are confirmed, and it’s a big deal.

According to an announcement from The Ring Magazine on Friday, the upcoming fights for Garcia and Haney will be held in Times Square, New York City on May 2nd. This famous location was chosen for this major boxing event. Garcia (24-1, 1 NC) will fight Rolando Romero (16-2), and Haney (31-0, 1 NC) will compete against Jose Carlos Ramirez (29-2).

Another notable fight on the same event card is between WBO welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez (21-1) and interim champion Arnold Barboza (32-0) for a title unification.

Garcia and Haney are both famous boxers, and their rivalry is expected to attract a lot of attention to the Times Square event. They previously had a controversial 12-round fight in Brooklyn in April. Leading up to that fight, Garcia acted unpredictably and failed to make weight, which led to him paying Haney $600,000 as agreed before the fight.

In their previous fight, Garcia knocked Haney down three times and initially won by majority decision. However, the result was changed to a no-contest because Garcia failed a drug test after the fight. Despite disputing the test results, Garcia accepted a deal, paid a $1.1 million fine, and received a one-year ban from fighting.

The event is planned to be broadcast live on pay-per-view. The TV channels showing the event will be announced later.
